Entryway

What better way to update your home than to make the entry warm and inviting!

$ – Fresh Front Door: Try out a pop of color on your front door – inside or out! Be sure to use a color that will be pleasant year round like Benjamin Moore Gentleman’s Gray, Sherwin Williams Waterscape, Valspar Jackson Square, or Dulux Calypso Green. If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowner’s association, be sure to read your bi-laws prior to painting the outside of your front door. If you are only painting one side of your door, you may be able to paint the whole thing with a paint sample!

$$ – Purifying Plants: Bring the outdoors indoor with some air purifying plants. Find some gorgeous vases to add a pop of color! Try out these plants known for improving air quality: Dracaena, Snake Plant, Bamboo Palm, or Spider Plant. If you are like me and don’t have a green thumb, check out these beautiful fake plants from World Market. (https://www.worldmarket.com/category/home-decor-pillows/plant-shop.do)

$$$ – Wall Gallery Wonder: Try getting some mix-and-match frames or all matching frames to make a wall gallery in your entryway. You can do wedding pictures, family photos, or a travel wall of places you have visited. A wall gallery can seem like a cheap update, but it depends on the prints and the frames you are using. Shop around for the best prices and know what you want in your layout before you begin.

$$$ – Organization Station: The entryway can be the catcher of all junk! Organize the area quickly with a bench to hold shoes, some cute hooks for coats, and a cute letter box to collect mail. You can also add a white board, chalk board, or cork board for a centrally located command center for all parties in the household.

Kitchen

This is where the big bucks tend to be spent; give it an update for a fresh, new twist!

$$ – Flashy Faucet: This may seem like a minute detail, but there are so many beautiful statement faucets available now. It is simple to install a faucet, but if you feel uncomfortable with plumbing you can hire a handyman to do the work for you. A new faucet can help make defeating your arch nemesis – the dishes – feel like a fun, new task.

$$ – Beautiful Backsplash: If you don’t have backsplash, this can be a tremendous transformation for your kitchen! If you do have backsplash, an update can make your kitchen space feel brand new. It may seem like something you can’t tackle yourself, but it likely is a project you can handle. Check out YouTube videos for inspiration, but tools are minimal and can be purchased cheap.

$$$ – Crisp Countertop: We said easy, not cheap, but this may not be as expensive as you think! There are various countertops ranging from laminate to various levels of granite. Most stores will be able to handle removal of old countertops, measurements, and install of new countertops. Some stores may even have special 0% financing deals!

Bathroom

Give your bathroom a serious modification, with these easy remodels it’ll be a spa-like vacation.

$ – Cute Curtain: This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s one that often goes unchanged for years. Grab a new shower curtain to update your bathroom. Often times, the shower curtain is the focal point of the bathroom. This simple swap is a cheap way to give your bathroom all the serene feelings.

$$ – Mirror, Mirror: If your house is like mine, it had the giant mirror that covers the entire wall! If so, it is time for an update. When taking down an old mirror, especially the giant ones that cover the whole wall, you may find some simple patch work on the drywall. People tend to freeze up at the sound of drywall work, but it is an easy fix. Grab your paint from the attic and head to Lowes or Home Depot to get dry wall mud, a putty knife, and a sanding block. After a new, updated mirror, you won’t be able to look away!

$$ – Peaceful Painting: To truly give your bathroom a spa-like feel, try a new paint color. Go with a light blue or green to make it feel calming and relaxing. The key to painting is all about the prep work and don’t buy cheap brushes. Go for the mid-grade to high-grade brushes to avoid imperfections. Perfect prepping makes for peaceful painting.

Another place to put the paint is on the vanity! This can truly transform the room. If you’ve always wanted to paint your kitchen cabinets, a good place to start is on your bathroom vanity. Painting cabinets can be tricky. Painting cabinets is the same as painting walls, preparation is key. Make sure you sand your vanity or use a sanding primer. Also, don’t go for the cheap paint. The last thing you want is the paint to start chipping a couple of months later. Go for the good paint and let it do the hard work!

Outdoor Area

Vitamin D is calling your name! Check out these updates and you’ll be sure to spend more time outside than in.

$ – Grow a Garden: Test out your green thumb by growing a little garden. If you don’t have a lot of space, try out a vertical garden from Pinterest. This will be a beautiful focal point and an easy conversation starter.  It’s a great way to bring the farm-to-table trend into your house. You will be extremely proud of yourself when you grow and cook your own food. Who knows, maybe it’ll even taste good! Start out with some easier vegetables and herbs like basil, chives, cilantro, cucumbers, lettuce, parsley, peppers, rosemary, spinach, squash, tomatoes, or zucchini.

$$ – Fire: Stay warm on those cool summer nights with a new fire pit! You can build one into the ground or purchase a patio-ready, above-ground fire pit. Pinterest has a plethora of ideas for diy fire pits. Either way, you can’t go wrong. I can taste the s’mores already!

$$$ – Lights, Furniture, Action: Create an outdoor oasis with new furniture and bistro lighting! It can be geared towards outdoor dinners, simply a hangout space to enjoy an iced drink, or both. Add an outdoor rug to make it feel cozy and inviting. We love some of the looks from Target, World Market, and Wayfair. Outdoor furniture can be costly. If you are on more of a budget, don’t forget about places like Big Lots or even a neighborhood yard sale! You can definitely give your outdoor space a new feel with just a few pieces.

No matter what your budget is, you can make your house feel like a new space this summer! There are many tips, tricks, and DIY videos on Pinterest and YouTube.
